February 28, 2013 Downtown

I apologize for the hectic uploads and broken schedule, but I am back in Korea and getting back on schedule, but first, I have a few photos from the end of my trip to share. This is the cityscape of down town San Diego at night. A very pleasant city, wide, clean and friendly. I would like to go back there.

January 18, 2013. Minerva.

This is for a friend who loves cats and think's the internet needs more, instead of dogs.

February 16, 2013. Friend!

Because everyone loves cute dog photos and buys calendars full of them and because cats suck...
Or because I've had nothing to post lately and thought a dog photo was fairly unique in this blog. Golden retrievers are about as playful, friendly and dumb as dogs get. She would run toward us every time we approached and made sure she had your attention, but if you chase her she will run away without looking and is not afraid of running into walls!
Yet there is something about every dog's eyes that seems so sad and understanding, like they know the universe better than you, and when they give you these long, deep stares you can't help but wonder what is going through it's beautiful mind.

February 11, 2013. Braving Beauty

Launching off the top of a mountain, they flow over the light-scattered lake and see it in a privileged manner only the braver can. Beams of light striking in the overcast, they drifted away like the feathers of a dandelion until shrinking into black dots in the sky. Some wouldn't, but I want to try that.

February 5, 2013. Many Lands

Riding through Guatemala, in a day we could go from the coldest to hottest weathers you will find here, driving on nice asphalt, dirt or even volcanic sand through all kinds of scenery. This tiny little country many people don't even know exist has so much in it.
Modern technology has not shrunk the world. Airplanes, cars, internet, media, they allow us to see more than most people ever did not too long ago, bringing the far away near us and consequently the near has often become far away. People don't venture beyond popularized sites that are already known and traveled. The ability to fly to a beach thousands of miles away may stop people from exploring one near them. There are more diamonds in the rough than we know but we are too busy running to those that have already been found. In this brief month home I've been through more places than many people here have seen in their lifetime, and often times they weren't too far away.

February 4, 2013. Badass Granny

A 4 hour, motorcycle themed family shoot, grandma sure had to be part of it. And when I told her the day before we'd be having the shoot, she was diligently down early all fixed up with her nicest Chinese clothes on. Oh but we couldn't have a motorcycle themed shoot with her looking like that! Quick! Granny to badass mode! A few minutes later my siblings had her suited up with a small motorcycle jacket and a very necessary bandanna. Hey, she used to ride motorcycles, so it counts.

February 3, 2013. Gray Grace

I do have a hard time getting to places at golden hour now, more so because sunrise and sunset both involve traveling at dark hours which is difficult for me to do here. Solution for that? Black and white. Harsh daylight kills the colors in photos with blown out highlights and dark shadows, but in black and white you get great contrasts. A tip to remember

February 2, 2013. Atlas

I must apologize for neglect toward this blog lately. In part it has been lack of internet, and my own laziness and lack of productivity, but I have really been relaxing and enjoying my time this vacation. For my amusement I climbed to the roof yesterday to watch the sunset, but found my self disappointed as the view was blocked by a few trees. Behind me, however, a much more interesting and colorful pattern of clouds was taking life. It's not a super stunning photo, but it's what you can achieve by just going up to the roof at the right hour and day. Guatemalan skies are clean and clear, full of texture and color. I swear with regular skies like this I'd have a much easier time with this blog in Korea.
